Advocacy Service
Advocacy is a method of empowering people to have their views and opinions heard. Housing Advocates support individuals to have a say in housing matters which affect their lives.
CHAP's housing advocacy service has been operational for over 8 years. We provide advice, information and advocacy support to individuals who are experiencing housing problems, including those who are homeless or about to become homeless. The service provides a trained advocate who undertakes an individual's case and adopts either a pro-active role to prevent homelessness or a re-active role by linking people with the appropriate services. CHAP can;
-
Provide
assistance to complete housing application, medical, rent and council
tax forms.
-
Make telephone
calls on the clients behalf, to the relevant agencies.
-
Write letters on
the clients behalf, to the relevant agencies.
CHAP can provide confidential information, advice and advocacy support on
the following:
-
Applying for
accommodation within North Ayrshire.
-
Applying for
accommodation outwith North Ayrshire.
-

Tax arrears.

-
Neighbour

-

-

Housing Advocates can also support clients to appeal decisions, for example, appealing tenancy offers and decisions received from their local authority or housing providers and can help the client to explore other housing options.
The Advocacy service is available to all residents in North Ayrshire regardless of which area or town you live in. If you, or someone you know requires advice or support with a housing issue, contact the office on 01294 313137 and we will arrange an appointment in a location, on a date and time to suit you. |
