ARE WE SUCCESSFUL?

  • From all the young people the project has worked with since it began in 2005; 87% have conveyed that they found the sessions useful.
  • As well as enjoying the sessions, 86% of the young people have indicated that they would consider leaving home more carefully after receiving the sessions.
  • 65% of the young people worked with since 2005 were already aware that homelessness was a big problem in North Ayrshire before the input was delivered.  A further 46% however, were more aware of the problem of homelessness as a result of the input.  Also, on completion of the workshops, 65% of young people showed that they could now identify other places to go for assistance if they became homeless.
  • 88% of all young people spoken to conveyed that they now had a different opinion of what it would be like to have a place of their own after receiving the input.  44% felt that having a place of their own would be more difficult than they first thought,  36% felt that it would be more expensive, 32% felt it would be more stressful and 42% thought that it would be scarier than they first thought.
  • The age that young people want (or expect) a place of their own has changed as a result of our workshops, with 37% now wanting or expecting a place of their own at a later age.
  • The young people also seem to have a greater understanding of the financial reality of managing a tenancy with 66% of the young people changing their opinion of the costs involved.
