Examples of how volunteering has enhanced individual lives; As a result of the project’s involvement with the Prince’s Trust, and the partnership work that was carried out with regards to the production of the DVD, a young person from one of the ‘Teams’ has been recruited as a volunteer with the project. The young man in question played a major role in the production and filming of the DVD, and as a result wanted to become more involved with the project and assist with the delivery of the input. This individual has overcome various obstacles throughout the course of his life, and has a variety of skills and experience to offer the project. As well as the project benefiting from having the assistance of a young person whilst facilitating workshops and developing resources, the young persons’ volunteering role is also providing him with invaluable practical experience and an opportunity to build on his existing skills, as well as learning new ones. It is a mutual beneficial experience, and it is hoped that the project can build on this experience by recruiting more young people as volunteers.
The Education Assistant Co-ordinator within the Department started in CHAP as a volunteer. He was interested in working with young people but at the time, had little experience working with this client group. Volunteering gave him the opportunity to develop his existing skills and learn new ones. After a comparatively short time he applied for, and was offered, a part time Education Officer post within the education department of CHAP. He has since developed further within the organisation to successfully secure, and excel, in the full time Education Assistant Co-ordinator position.
