Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme
The Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme (DiGS) is now part of CHAP's portfolio of services, having taken over the management of the scheme in June 2005, on behalf of East Ayrshire Council.
DiGS provides the 'guarantee' of a rent deposit, (which is normally in place for between 6 and 12 months) claimable by the landlord, at the end of the tenancy, if any loss or damage is incurred. The deposit enables those on a low income and unable to raise a deposit on their own, to access accommodation in the private rented sector. Who can access the scheme? The scheme has been developed to assist those who are; * 25+ years (or have dependants) * On a low income or in receipt of a qualifying benefit * Unable to raise a deposit by own means * Have experience, or at risk of becoming homeless * Able to sustain a tenancy with minimal support Ongoing support may be available if required (restrictions apply)
DiGS can be accessed from the base at Marlin House, 12 Heatherhouse Road, Irvine, KA12 8HQ on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday. We also operate in East Ayrshire on a Tuesday and Thursday. Katrina Hunter, Rent Deposit Co-ordinator and Andrea McVay, Rent Deposit Officer, can be contacted by telephone on 01294 313137 or 07939073695.
A drop-in service is also available at the offices of East Ayrshire Council, Housing Options, College Wynd, Kilmarnock on a Tuesday.
