Asda Launches £1 Café Meal Deal For Over 60s
The Age UK ‘It Doesn’t Add Up’ report published 21/09/2022, highlights that older people are actively cutting back on food. They are buying cheaper products, buying food that doesn’t need to be heated up, and reducing the number of meals they eat in a day. It also reports that the biggest measure being taken by older people to combat the cost-of-living crisis, is to turn their heating off. This, combined with eating cold food, or skipping meals will have a severe negative impact on people’s physical and mental wellbeing, especially over the winter months.
With the ongoing impact of the cost-of-living crisis, and research showing that people aged 65 to 74 are £163 per month worse off compared to this time last year*, the news that Asda has introduced a new ‘Winter Warmer’ initiative, is a welcomed announcement. Throughout November and December, those aged 60 and over can enjoy soup, a roll, and unlimited tea and coffee for just £1.
This will run alongside their current ‘Kids Eat for £1’ offer which has been in place since June (see our article here for more information), which has seen over 557,000 meals being served, and has been continued beyond the summer holidays due to the high demand and the increasing need for money-saving initiatives.
